I know this may sound gibberish to you, but I think I'm in a tragedy.

"Sometimes, when we lose ourselves in fear and despair, in routine and constancy, in hopelessness and tragedy, we can thank God for Bavarian sugar cookies. And, fortunately, when there aren't any cookies, we can still find reassurance in a familiar hand on our skin, or a kind and loving gesture, or subtle encouragement, or a loving embrace, or an offer of comfort, not to mention hospital gurneys and nose plugs, an uneaten Danish, soft-spoken secrets, and Fender Stratocasters, and maybe the occasional piece of fiction. And we must remember that all these things, the nuances, the anomalies, the subtleties, which we assume only accessorize our days, are effective for a much larger and nobler cause. They are here to save our lives."

- Karen Eiffel in Stranger Than Fiction
Cloverfield

I had to skip our Thursday bowling session for the press screening of Cloverfield. (Sorry guys, I felt bad about it, but I figured there's always next week.)

Thanks to Paolo, Meann and the people from UIP. ^_^

I'm not a writer nor a film critic, but what the hey. Endure, my friends.

Cloverfield
Directed by Matt Reeves
Produced by J. J. Abrams; Bryan Burk
Written by Drew Goddard

[Warning: Slightly spoilery, but then again, it's experiencing the movie that matters really.]

It starts simply: a recorded memoir of a good weekend plays, with time and date stamps on the lower part of the screen. A guy (Rob Hawkins) mans the camera, and tries to record what turns out to be a good weekend with someone he really likes.

As soon as it gets interesting, the scene cuts to a send-off party that was taped over the original video. Several testimonials and revelations after, an explosion goes off somewhere in lower Manhattan, and Hud, the guy tasked ...

I can hear the bells!

--on video. I wish I was there tonight to hear them myself.

I do remember one late afternoon some years ago-- I was passing through the grassy area between the UP Theater and the Film Center when I heard the Carillion play the opening lines to "Hey Jude." I walked slowly, lingered and sang along. It was the highlight of my day.

Thanks to whoever put this on YouTube. (Thanks to Mida for the link.)

Walang Hihirit.

11 July 2007 - Unang Hirit @ GMA ch 7
(Photos taken with a lousy phone camera. Last six photos courtesy of John.)

Ten minutes of geekhood immortalized on TV.

Got myself talked into being a crummy stand-in at two in the morning. At least at one point in my life, I felt I owned all the stuff featured in the show. Hahaha.

(Additional kwento comes with the photos.)

Transformers

*Fangirl mode*

I gave this movie 5 stars because I say so.

(Hahaha ito ang pinaka-walang kwentang review. You have been warned.)

...
...
...

I won't be giving major spoilers so instead here's the stuff I learned while watching the movie:

1. Take a pee break before entering the cinema.
I learned this the hard way. I had way too many glasses of freebie iced tea at the cinema lobby press catering thingy, plus a large lemonade. It took a lot of bladder control 'cause I couldn't bear to leave my seat and miss out on the action.

3. The robot transformations were intricate and unsettling.
But they hella rawk. Really. I was involuntarily muttering oohs and ahhhs. (Seatmates did not mind, they were doing the same. Heehee.) Both Decepticons and Autobots look more bad ass now than they did in the cartoon series.

4. I have forgiven the fact that...
